50 Questions That Can Help Free Your Mind
These questions have no right or wrong answers.
Because sometimes asking the right questions is the answer.
I thought this was a great exercise and suggest you do it as well.
Here are my answers…
1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Most days I would say 24/25. I certainly don’t act my age (a week away from 39), I’m generally an optimist, & I love to play.
2. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying; you never know if you don’t try. I teach this to my kids. I always make them try, no matter what it is. They learn & discover.
3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
It’s called the money excuse trap. I’m guilty of it, yet so many that are given a deadline on life find the means to experience things otherwise not experienced. I believe we all need a bucket list. I recently added sky diving to mine because I have an incredible fear of falling. I want to overcome that fear.
4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
This is something I have been working on this past year. I’m learning to take my own advice; also learning to notice the little things in life and appreciate them more such as a hug from a family member or a request to play with the kids.
5. What is the one thing you would most like to change about the world?
To rid the world of hate and negativity. Global society feeds off of negativity. Sad.
6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Anything having to do with helping others that appreciate the help you are giving them.
7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
Most definitely what I believe in. I am considered outside the norm, yet I have a high standard of ethics.
8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Even though I am vocal and firmly stand my ground in my beliefs, I would go after things with more dedication to ensure the correct result. This question will stir some movement on my part.
9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Not near as much as I should have, but I have taken more control this past year. The leash continues to get tighter.
10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Doing the right things are the most important with me. We learn through trial and error to do things right. There is no trial and error when it comes to doing the right things.
11. You are having lunch with three people you respect and admire. They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend. The criticism is distasteful and unjustified. What do you do?
I speak up for my friend and justify her. I then ask for their justification in their criticism.
12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
Study all you can to be self-sufficient and independent. You can rely on no one but yourself.
13. Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Yes, as long as the loved one didn’t do it first.
14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
Not personally, but I believe it exists.
15. What is something you know you do differently than most people?
Think. I’m the eternal optimist in life and people. Sometimes that gets me in trouble, but oh well. I will rise again.
16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
People are different in many ways. Whether it was the way they were raised, a past trauma that influenced them, or merely their personal preferences, everyone is unique in their own way.
17. What is one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?
To travel and explore the world with its many people. I love experiencing new cultures. Timing is currently holding me back. Once the children are grown, I will have the time to explore.
18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Oh my yes. I’ve gotten better, but the “shoulda, coulda, woulda, didn’t” scenarios need to burn. I have regrets in life. I’m learning to let them go because most can’t be changed.
19. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
If economy had no say, then it would be New Zealand. I appreciate the country’s beauty as well as its people.
20. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
The floor number, no. The door close button, yes. Stupid button.
21. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
A simpleton. They know nothing and therefore don’t care. When I was younger, I had no fear or cares. Now that I’m all the wiser and understand cause and effect better, I know “worry” is a dirty word.
22. Why are you, you?
Because God made me this way.
23. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
Most of the time.
24. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
When a good friend moves away. Moving sucks.
25. What are you most grateful for?
The health of my family.
26. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
Tough question. Most of my cherished memories are from growing up; however, I do have cherished memories as an adult. As I sit and ponder this question, I reflect on the movie, “50 First Dates” with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Then there’s the opposite end of the spectrum of losing your past. I would think it would be easier to live life normally while searching for answers to the lost past than to have to be reminded each day of where you are and why.
27. Is it possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Yes. The closer you are to the Equator, the more tropical and warm it remains.
28. Has your greatest fear ever come true?
No.
29. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
No and no.
30. What is your happiest childhood memory? What makes it so special?
Family get-togethers on my mom’s side. Loved them and miss them. Everyone was always so happy and enjoyed the time together. There was never a dull moment. I relive them in my dreams.
31. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
This past year, 2011. My life has evolved for the better. 2012 is going to Rock!
32. If not now, then when?
This is irrelevant because the time is now.
33. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
Nothing. You lose when you fail to try.
34. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever?
Yes. The hearts do speak.
35. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
Because each religion believes it is the superior and therefore believes all should surrender to that one religion.
36. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
Is it possible to know that what we see through our eyes and experience through our senses is real? What if things aren’t really what we think they are, but only as what our brains turns them into?
37. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
I am an online marketer. I absolutely love what I do. That million dollars would allow me to help that many more people.
38. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
More work I enjoy doing, without a doubt.
39. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Once in a while, yes. That just means you need to do something different.
40. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in?
I am experiencing that now. I know the sun will rise and shine soon.
41. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
Aside from my immediate family that I see every day, my maternal grandma. She helped raise me and doesn’t live near me. I miss her.
42. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous?
No. I wouldn’t last long in the positive limelight because my mouth would set too many people off. I enjoy my privacy.
43. What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Millions of people go about their day in a robotic fashion. They don’t or can’t take time off for a needed family holiday. They are not free to go and do as they please. To truly live is to live with a live fire and passion; to look forward to each new day with enthusiasm.
44. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
When those calculations stop multiplying.
45. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
We are scared of the mistake. We are scared of the judgment of others.
46. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
In my younger years, probably many things because I was so worried everyone was judging me for something. Now, I am my own individual. I am ethical and if I do something wrong, I am not scared of criticism. As for who I am, I dare people to judge me.
47. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing?
2 days ago as I lay in silence.
48. What do you love? Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love?
Laughter, happiness, success; most times yes.
49. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday? What about the day before that? Or the day before that?
Perhaps, if there is a significant thought or visualization.
50. Decisions are being made right now. The question is: Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you?
Others are trying their best right now to make them for me, but I know what’s important and right. I make my own decisions.
